Several reasons - one for example is to allow a Media Server share the SAME
TAPE DRIVE / LIBRARY that is connected to your Master Server.
 
by default, when you install a Master Server, it is also a Media Server as
well :-)
 
Also, you can specify and schedule jobs to run on this Media Server, to help
offload the Master Server.
 
Or you can have a Media Server that does a backup of itself for large file
based / enterprise systems with large TB's of Data.
 
There are many other reasons I am sure - check the Sys Admin Guides or the
Media Manager System Guide for more details and reasons !
