Sorry about that Simon, I guess I didn't clarify enough the first time.

When I perform a full backup I get errors on only LIVE DB files with an
"Unknown Error". I know that I can take the offline backup and restore
to SQL but I wanted to know if I can take a live backup without the SQL
Agent.

Sorry for any misunderstandings.

Best regards,

How was I to know this? If you are doing offline SQL Backups, then
surely when you run the "FULL BACKUPS" via NetBackup, you are capturing
the .bak files ??

If you have these files on tape, you use them to restore !

Am I missing something here??

Even if you were to do a FULL RESTORE of SQL, you have to restore the
OS, drives, partitions, ect and then once completed, recover SQL Server
(be that via the Online SQL Agent or offline using the restore method
built into SQL).

Bit puzzled by what you are asking.... if you want to do online sql
backups, use an agent and get licensed for it !

        Simon,

I do use that already and backup offline but i would rather do
everything from one place.

        Anas

What about configuring an offline SQL Backup, via the SQL GUI
application?

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2000/maintain/sqlbackup
rest.mspx#EOE

Does this help? no license needed .... and NetBackup will treat
them as backup files (.bak) - They are not in use, and you should get no
problems !

WARNING: Offline Backups may not suit everyone. Therefore, if
you are running a large enterprise SQL environment, you may wish to
invest in an online, trouble free solution

                Greetings All,

Is there anyway to properly backup SQL without a SQL
license? Im running NBU 6 with MP4 and I take full backups. I take all
local drives and system state. I did a test restore yesterday but I
didn't get all my DB's back. There were some "Unknown Errors" during the
initial backup.

                Any Ideas?

                Best regards,

                Anas
