I run 2 Gig + 2xCPU in my Media servers and 8 Gig + 4xCPU in my Master
Disk staging on EMC DL210 VTL attached to media server thru fiber
Tape backup on ADIC i500 LTO Library attached to the VTL thru fiber
The VTL handles the de-staging to tape outside of Netbackup?
Client backup done on a dedicated 100BaseT LAN
I'd be getting GigE ASAP.
I would like to get any ideas or suggestions on the plan. I would also
appreciate past & present experience on the DL210 VTL and i500.
Also, is it possible to directly attach the media
server---->VTL----->i500 thru dark fiber or do I need a fiber switch or
is there any other way of doing it?
Depends what you mean by "Dark Fiber". If you mean "true" Dark Fiber, as
in long haul, single mode fiber, leased from a utility, then no....most
FC200 devices have the wrong type of lasers/GBICs/SFPs for that kind of
fiber. If you mean a long multimode cable your company ran between
datacenters in two buildings a few hundred feet away, then
yes.......However, fo the price of the infrastructure you've got, it
would not be very cost efficient to waste that fiber with a single
library hanging off the other end.......
And.....I'm guessing that library has more than one fiber
port...probably one for the robot and one per drive, so you'd need a
switch to amalgamate that anyway.
