[Veritas-bu] NBU 6 compatibility w/ 3.4 Clients?

I've been told by Veritas support to update clients to 5.x prior to
updating 6.0 because the rewrite of the system won't support 4.5 and
earlier. My experience after any update is if there are any issues with
a client after an update that updating the client resolves the issue
(then I only have to deal with the issues of clients that WERE updated
prior to the update that weren't having problems previously).

Thanks.

Jonathan
Cannot comment on 6.0 and 3.4 compatability, but I think I do recall a
user
who had issues with 3.4 client and I am sure they said they were using
version 6.0 of NBU and it was NOT working - getting constant failures.

Damn!! Wish I knew where that email was !! Anyhow, for 5.1 I can confirm
it
works, though not supported.

I am almost willing to stick my neck out and say you will probably be
best
to upgrade - unless I was having a bad dream, I am sure someone posted
on
here that there was a problem with 3.4 talking to 6.0

I'm implementing 6.0 here and I'm wondering how critical it is that we
upgrade *every last client* to 4.5+ !? We only purchased a limited
number
of 6.0 clients, most of our machines are 4.5 or 5.1. But what about the
3.4s? I know they aren't supported, but will it work? I don't mind
spending time upgrading these machines, but many of them are more hassle
than their worth IMO. If I can get backups of them with the 3.4 client,
many will be replaced within the next year or so. Anyone even try this?
I
don't mind spending the time upgrading the 4.5s and 5.1s to 6.0 for
critical
servers, but I've got 30 machines that sit around not doing much of
anything. Their probably not worth backing up, much less getting an
outage
for client upgrade. =P
