The short answer is that you do a 'bpimport' on the tapes with the
images.

You don't actually need to know the tapes. You can use 'bpexpdate'
directly on an backup_id of an image if you have it.
bpexpdate -backupid <id> -d <new_expire_date> [ other options... ]
It will make sure all volumes that contain the backup expire no earlier
than the new date on that image.
