Just to be clear:

Symantec Enterprise Vault is a stand alone product that facilities the
archival of "stale data" from file and email servers.  It can do things
like "Remove all files that haven't been modified in 6 months" to a
"vault" which can then keep those files on disk (so you don't continue
to back them up) archive them to tape (by telling Netbackup 6.0 to write
these files to tape) and has many other features, like stubs where even
after the file is "vaulted" a "stub" is left on the file / email system
so users can still double click on the item and retrieve it, even after
its been vaulted.  This product has nothing to do with Netbackup, and
was formerly known as KVS before Symantec bought the company out.  The
"new" Netbackup 6.0 integration is a feature, and Greg is saying it's a
limited feature at best, but you don't need Netbackup to run Enterprise
Vault.

Symantec Netbackup Vault is a software package that assists NBU Admins
in duplicating images from "disk to tape" or "tape to tape" for the
purposes of taking them offsite!  While it isn't REQUIRED to do
duplication it does "assist" in making this job easier, especially if
you frequently send media offsite for storage.  This is an "add on"
package for Netbackup and has been around since at least 5.0 if not
going back to 4.5 or farther.

I am talking about enterprise vault add on for netbackup. It has been
around for a few years now. Its not well meshed with netbackup (yet).

I'm sorry Greg, but I'm still not 100% clear which "vault" product you
are talking about in your complaints that duplication from VTL --> real
tape isn't possible.

Can you confirm that you're talking about "Enterprise Vault", the
relatively new-to-NetBackup Exchange-specific product, only runs on
windows, etc?

As more and more "EV" users start posting to this group, we're going to
have lots of confusing conversations like this... :-(
