If you want to make the best use of DSU/DSSU's then MP4 minimum, as of
MP4 you can run multiple duplication jobs and tweek was size you want
each job to be and so on.
 
This is not available  MP3 downwards

Not sure what "LARGE" is defined as, but MP4 works ok after 7
engineering binaries from Symantec.  All but one made it's way into
MP5... 

Is there really such a thing as "best patch?"   (Seems like an oxymoron
to me) :)

MP4 seems to be safe in a LARGE environment for us :)
