I believe the NetBackup recommended way is to point at the vip name
(cluster name). In my environment, the DBAs have gone to great pains to
use only one rman script for a dozen different databases, so cluster name
is not an option for us because the script is aware of the hostname and
the db instance name.
Yes, you can backup the instance on just that one node, but read the
NetBackup for Oracle manual carefully as there are some interesting
restore implications. At all the places I have worked, testing an oracle
restore requires a NetBackup admin and a DBA. This may also require a
recovery catalog database.
>From the way you worded the question, I assume you're talking about Oracle
10g RAC. My environment is linux, but I think the same points still
apply.
