In Windows NT the share information would remain constant even if the
folder was deleted. That is, you would still have Share1, Share2 Share3
etc... but they would lead to no where because the folders were gone in
the file system. In Windows 2000 and 2003 the user is warned before
deleting the folder that this will also remove the share, assuming the
user is logged on locally. If the user is accessing a "share within a
share" - that is - they are deleting a shared folder on remote system
then (similar to Windows NT) the folder is removed but the share
remains. You will also receive some pretty nasty errors in the Event
Viewer every time the server service is restarted cautioning you that
the share leads to nowhere.

As far as I am aware share information is stored locally in the
registry, and really has nothing to do with Active Directory (that I am
aware of.) If you would like to know if the share still exists even if
the folder does not, then go into "Computer Management" in the control
panel / Administrative Tools, select "Shared Folders" then "Shares" to
view what shares are currently being offered up by the server service.
If the share still exists (but not the folder) then simply restoring the
folder will suffice. If not, right click on the folder (logged in
locally) and select properties then the sharing tab.

Regards,

-Jonathan

When a deleted Windows shared folder is restored, do the attributes that
make a shared folder get restored also?

The client is a Windows 2003 server.

The Master server is NBU 5.1MP4 for Solaris
