Hi SAN,

As you've worked out that it is not being recognised as a cleaning tape,
it is presumably getting assigned a media id and you know what it is.

In order to get the media type assigned manually as a cleaning tape you
need to do the following

vmchange -new_mt <cleaning media type> -m <media id>

eg a few days ago I ran

vchange -new_mt dlt3_clean -m AHS512

As Simon has alluded to, it also has to be in the none pool if it isn't
already, I'll leave you to work out how to do that using the GUI or
vmchange.

Finally you have to set up cleaning using tpclean.

If you are using SSO, you have to rely on TapeClean if your drive
supports it. If you're not using SSO then you can define the maximum
mount time for a drive before it gets cleaned. Once the mount time for
each drive goes over that time, Netbackup will use a cleaning tape to
clean it.

I use tpclean to configure all this but I am sure that you can use the
GUI as well.

There is no such thing as a policy for cleaning tape to do monthly
cleans but if you really wanted to you could define a monthly
application policy and have it run a script that kicked off lots of
tpcleans to manually clean the drives or put it in cron but IMHO you're
much better off just doing it the standard way and relying on either
TapeClean on your library or maximum mount times - works for us :-)

BTW the man pages for tpclean and vmchange are very informative as are
the manuals.

HTH

Sean
