The point is that as of 5.1 MP5 a SAN media server can now restore to ANY =
client.

As I understand it the SAN Media Server license is only to allow a server =
on the SAN to backup and restore itself. An SSO license allows a media =
server to backup and restore other servers. We use SSO for the purpose =
you indicate here with no problems.=20

 NetBackup 5.1_MP5 fixes include:
Etrack Incident =3D ET522055=20

Description:=20
Restore to an alternate client (not a master or media server) by a SAN=20
media server failed with an error status 159:=20

The licensed features for this system did not permit the backup of a=20
remote client (<client>). To avoid this issue, make sure that the=20
license key is entered properly.=20

SAN media server licensing should be enforced for backup but not for=20
restore to allow maximum flexibility for device recovery and data=20
restoration.=20

Hi Bob
=20
I don't think there's a way of knowing for sure without trying!
=20
PLEASE try and let the list know - my gut-feel says it should work as long =
as all the necessary SERVER entries are in place. Just make sure you have =
all the necessary logs in place before you start:
bprd on the master, bpbrm on the media server, bpcd on the client.
=20
GOOD LUCK and please let us know!

can a licensed SAN media server be used to restore data to a client other =
than itself?
