Does this happen when you run a robotic inventory?
We have seen this problem when we run a robotic inventory with a large
amount of tapes (20,000+)- the inventory takes about hour to 90 minutes
to complete and during that time, vmd does not respond to other requests
which leads to 81 errors. This has been confirmed with Veritas to be
expected with alarge amount of tapes. (we are running at NB 4.5 fp6)

errors (status 81 (Media Manager volume daemon (vmd)
