I've had issues here where a backup will start, mount a tape but never
write anything, eventually failing with an error 47 I think. It was all
due to a reverse DNS record for the IP not matching up. Assuming
windows here try ping -a <SERVER IP> and see what you get. It should
match your server name or FQDN. You might try nslookup to directly
query your DNS servers.

For me the most common situation causing bpclntcmd -pn to fail is no
reverse DNS for the client. If not that there are a variety of exotic
resolution issues that can cause it. Check your bprd log for clues.

Bpclntcmd -ip master_server_ip_address (works)
But
Bpclntcmd -pn (doesn't work)
This is driving me crazy. Naturally the backups fail.
