For me, creating a separate filesystem for /usr/openv/netbackup/db is the
first task of any NetBackup master server installation. Symbolic links work
fine here. In my opinion the install script should warn you that putting th=
e
catalog in the / filesystem is a bad idea.
Preferably this filesystem is on some device that can dynamically grow the
LUN as required.
The major disadvantage of compression is of course CPU, especially if you
are doing large searches. Also, those files have to be decompressed to use
them. If somebody tries to search a large part of the catalog, and it all
gets uncompressed, you'll fill up / again. Finally, compression is just
delaying the inevitable. The catalog will still keep growing, and eventuall=
y
fill up /
One last thing - when moving the images directory to the new filesystem, us=
e
tar rather than cp or mv ;)
