It shouldn't fail so long as your policy is using the virtual name
rather than the physical name. Ideally you should have different
backups configured:

=20

1) policy-server1 =3D Backs up the OS and other local filesystems
unique to this physical host

2) policy-server2 =3D Backs up the OS and other local filesystems
unique to this physical host

3) policy-home1 =3D Backs up the filesystems required for and
mounted for this virtual host only=20

4) policy-group2 =3D Backs up the filesystems required for and
mounted for this virtual host only

=20

Anything that appears in policy 1 or 2 should NOT appear in policy 3 or
4 and vice-versa. Typically with clusters you determine which
filesystems are required for the virtual host and they are mounted
wherever that virtual host resides. Your system will have a base OS and
may have other local filesystems that you didn't cluster for one reason
or another. Presumably home1 and group2 have IPs of their own so using
those names for the "client" in policies 3 and 4 should insure it backs
up regardless of where the virtual hosts physically reside at the time
of backup. Its also important to do this to insure that when you do
restores of virtual hosts they don't try to go to a physical host where
the virtual doesn't currently reside.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] SAN Media Servers

=20

Guys

I am 100% I asked this question before, but I cannot find a response, so
just in case can I ask it again?

=20

2 Node Cluster - Each node is a SAN Media Server.

=20

SAN Media Server names are SERVER1 and SERVER2 (this is their Physical
Names)

=20

Each Server has a Virtual Hostname of HOME 1 and GROUP2 - It is these
virtual names that users connect to in order to access resources. Home1
lives on Server1 and Group2 lives on Server2.

=20

That is until today... when the Resources swapped over and although the
backups were completed fine over the weekend, I am suspecting that
tonight the backups will fail as the virtual names are on the wrong
physical names.

=20

Am I right in thinking this IS the case?

Also, if anyone else has a Win2k or Win2k3 cluster, could I ask another
question, OFF the topic of Netbackup?

Thanks
