Hi
Well my gut feeling is, the Admin would "ask" a question - I was in fact in
this position - had to restore data from a server no longer existed, but
found that the server was replaced by a new box, with a new name.
With the BA&R tool, simply added the new server as the destination and the
data was restored.
Is this the sort of scenario you meant? Server changes were documented using
excel sheet, although its not quite a common issue now as it was 8 months
ago!

I didn't see any responses to this. I would also be very curious to know
how people are tracking this kind of information.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Filesystem location tracking for restores
Hello all,
I was curious how people are tracking moves of filesystems.
For example, let's say /export/home resides on serverA, then serverA is
decommissioned and replaced by serverB.
Two years later, the new administrator assigned to backups has to restore a
file from /export/home, but isn't aware that it used to reside on serverA
and therefore doesn't see any backups listed because he/she entered serverB
as the client.
So, the question is how are people tracking the moves....Excel spreadsheets?
Any info is appreciated.
