Guys
have a problem and wanted to clarify something with you......

One of our Win2k3 (SP1) Clusters was having poor backup performance (ie
taking 2 1/2 days) and causing the Cluster Servers to die due to lack of
resource.
Problem faced - running backups would take days and in most occasions,
backups would take 12+ hours to START and therefore if a failure occurred
the window would have been shut !

I started my own investigation, while a colleague contacted Symantec Support

My first thing to do was to shutdown VSS, all AV software and also any Disk
I/O that was occurring on this box.
I also disabled TRACKER.exe which I felt was also not helping the matter - I
ran a quick incremental and straight away, the backup kick off no probs!

However a colleague contacted Symantec/Veritas and was told that Veritas
Storage Foundation software. It appears that the version installed on the
cluster (4.1) is not compatible with Windows 2003 SP1. So we need to upgrade
to version 4.3 so we have been told to ensure stable backups and a stable
cluster system.

Since making my own changes, the backups have worked very well (down to 15
hours). However, could someone advise me if there ARE issues with the SFS
from veritas with SP1 applied?

If anyone has any inside info, would appreciate it as I found it hard to
accept the Veritas man would comment about the software if there was a known
issue, which I have no documentation about.

Thanks

Simon
