My last experiment with client compression is that it was not worth the
additional time to compress as compared to the disk space savings.  YMMV, of
course.

I use compression in the policies that write to a disk storage unit.

I do NOT use compression to a disk staging unit because it is only
temporary.
I let the tape drive handle the compression as the final destination

Is this a sound philosophy?
