I had this same issue trying to do a "year-end" catalog backup to send 
offsite for 7 years.  Turns out that I could not specify a specific media 
ID, and I couldn't run the command to copy one of my catalog media IDs 
either.  The only way I could make it work was to manually reconfigure the 
catalogs to use a different media ID, run the catalog, pull the "new" 
catalog out of the machine, and then reset my catalog media configuration to 
its original settings.

A major pain in the kiester, but I got what I wanted from it...

Gah!

Scratch that again...it "succeeds" but ignored the media ID you specify,
and backs up to one of the pre-configured media.

Back to square one.
