I have a few sites with this type of a setup. I wonder whether or not
you have a robot and if so how big your library is? I'm assuming you
have a small library with say, 4 or even 10 tape capacity. We have
created several volume pools to address this issue. We use the standard
Netbackup pool to handle the day to day incrememntals etc. We use a
pool called "Offsite 3 Month" to run the weekly backups and one a month
we write our monthly backups to "Offsite 1 Year." This is not the best
way to do this, but it does keep your tapes separate, that is... you
won't have any tapes with daily / incremental AND Full Monthly Backups
on them, so your day to day data never goes offsite. To be honest we
are moving OFF this style but it might suit you. Just make sure when
tapes come back from offsite they go into the SCRATCH pool to supplement
your 3 (or more) volume pools when they're empty.

We do not want any duplication.

We simply want the vaulting softwhere to manage the tape rotations.

Daily do no move

Weekly rotate weekly

Monthly rotate yearly

you can't really duplicate tapes (Vault) without a second tape drive
(source and destination)....

=20

;o)

=20

do you want to duplicate backup to your HO?

=20

IIRC, vault/duplication must be between two drive on the same media
server.....

We have recently set up one of our remote sites with one media
server and several clients. All of these are windows. Locally we have a
unix master /media server . I was asked to setup a vault for the remote
location to track the tape movement and was also told that it can not be
done for a stand alone drive.

        So which is it?=20
