A tape is assigned to a specific media server and cannot be used in another
media server while assigned. Once the tape is empty +ACY- deassigned then it
can be picked up by any server.
NB5.x +ACY- down uses a distributed media databaase that enforces this behavior
(without extradinory intervention).
NB-6.0 might change this since they've centralized the media database but I
have no first-hand knowledge.
For now, you'll require four tapes, one per media server.

Hi, I have two shared tape devices that are used by one media server and
three san media servers. Each time I run a backup with one month retention
each media server wants to use a separate tape so I require that four tapes
be in my library. The backups are going to the same pool although different
media servers. As it is a san environment the media is not segregated, it is
all in the same library.
If I have a san environment must each piece of media by allocated to a san
media server and is then not usable by another media server. I prefer if all
four of my media servers use the same tape. If I have to put in a tape for
each media server then my library will fill up.
