Take a look in your /netbackup/db/media folder for a file named
"errors". The file should be similar to the below. The output displays
Date, time, tape number, drive number and error code.
=20
In this example the number "0" indicate drive0. If you're log displays
repeated errors for different tapes in drive "0" then you should check
the drive as a potential source of your media problems.
10/16/05 04:01:49 CGV818 0 WRITE_ERROR
10/16/05 04:06:00 CGV213 0 WRITE_ERROR
10/16/05 04:10:12 CGV314 0 WRITE_ERROR
10/16/05 04:14:24 CGV317 0 WRITE_ERROR
10/16/05 04:18:35 CGV152 0 WRITE_ERROR

In this example the tape "CGV654" has been used inserted into drives 4,
1, 2, &5 with repeated errors. You should remove the tape from your
rotations and check the number of times this has been used as compared
to your other tapes. Dirty tapes and drives will transfer the dirt back
and fourth escalating your problems.
=20
11/02/05 03:36:52 CGV654 4 WRITE_ERROR
11/02/05 06:38:01 CGV654 1 WRITE_ERROR
11/02/05 06:50:01 CGV654 2 WRITE_ERROR
11/02/05 06:55:42 CGV654 5 WRITE_ERROR

Check this log often. Also down

Best Regards,
Darby Moses

We have seen this when the tape drive and/or tape cart are failing. Do
you see the cleaning light on the tape drive. With the dlt7000 the
cleaning light came on when the drive had an ioerror. Cleaning may or
may not clear up the problem. I believe that most of the time cleaning
does not clear up the problem.=20
The ce can check the error logs in the drive and let you know if
multiple tapes are having the same problem.

We have an ATL P3000 library with 5 DLT drives. Just recently,
backups that happen to land on two particular drives among the five seem
to run much more slowly than expected. Anyone else seen anything like
this, please, and can suggest a remedy?

        =20

        Thanks!
