Well, files are backed up sequentially across their blocks (first block in
the file to the last block in the file). If that file's blocks are heavily
fragmented, you'll be wasting a lot of disk time seeking to data. The
exception would be something like flashbackup that grabs the disk blocks
without much regard to the file structure.
