Hi again
At the moment, it looks like its using the MS version not the veritas! I do
not see a license for the Veritas option.

Just so we are talking about the correct tab, I connect to the Master
Server, goto Properties and then click on CLIENT ATTRIBUTES. There is a
General Tab / Windows Open File Backup Tab.

I click on the WOFB Tab and its enabled for "use MS VSS Servers (win2003
clients).

Also, I have placed a radio button on "disable Snapshot & continue", because
I think that is why the status 156 messages were appearing! Never got them
this morning!

But what is the VSS? I thought VSS Service was something to do with
recovering files from a share??

Hello

You can also use the bpclient command for turning vsp off.

I would turn VSP off unless you need to backup open files.
OTM was in the older versions and that option should no longer be available.
You have to go to the Master Properties -> Client List -> To change the VSP
options in 5.1.

Hi again
Posting a lot today, although pleased to report most of my issues are in
hand and more or less resolved!

My next case is the backups that fail with 156 - investigations shows its to
do with VSS, but what is the VSS and how is this associated with Netbackup
5.x ?

I recall the 3.4 NBU used something called OTM - which I think was called
Open Transaction Manager which allowed opened files to be backed up!!
(correct me if I am wrong).

As I do not see a license key for this Veritas solution (known as VSP), I
can only assume that Netbackup thinks its using the Microsoft version! But
how? Is it just configured from the "Manage" option under the shares and
configured? Or is there more to it that that!

If anyone has any input, suggestions to use / not to use or any drawbacks,
please feel free to reply.

Thank you once again
