Backup questionI concur.

We had a request at one point to run ad-hoc backups of all files from =
1/1/2000 to 12/31/2001, 1/1/2001-12/31/2001, and so on. The nearest we =
could figure to do it was to do some VB scripting to copy all the =
required files into a secondary folder on the client and just backup =
that folder. We had a lot of trouble coming up with a way to do this =
just once -- I can't imagine trying to do it on a scheduled basis.

I actually hoped that would have been one of the upgrades to version =
5.x...

  Oh, Server side?

  You're out of luck, then.

I suppose you could hack something. In your master servers =
db/images/<client>/STREAMS file, you could hack the timestamp to what =
you want, then you could change the backup method for that NT client to =
time-stamp based (rather than archive-bit) and run an incremental.

  It's ugly and, IMO, uncertain.

Hmm... good idea Mark. But that's assuming you can run a backup from =
the client side. If you can do that, then this is fairly simple.

Can't the window "search" command be limited by a time range?

    =20

If you did your search, you could generate a list of files. Then =
select all and hit "properties -> Advanced" Set the archive bit on all =
the files.

    =20

Finally, perform an incremental backup of the NT box. If you're =
using the default incremental settings, you'll get all files with the =
archive bit set. =20

    =20

You'll get some extra stuff, too, but what you want should be part =
of it.

In the windows world, this isn't easily done. Its no small task to =
do it on a UNIX client either, although it can be done through some =
tricky shell scripting by building a dynamic list based off of a find =
command piped into a for/while - if/then/else loop to check the creation =

this using Cygwin on the Windows machine. If you aren't familiar with =
scripting, you may want to get with someone who is and hash this out - =
that is - if you can get cygwin installed on the windows server in =

I have a windows server that we need to backup. But I only need =
files from a specific date range like all files since xxxx date. Can =
this be done? I do not see this as an option in the backup selections =
