We have 2 of them. The older dd200 model and one dd460. We just
purchased our 2nd DD460. We just love them. We mainly use them
to backup our exchange environment, which is roughly 1tb is size. We do
full backups each night with a 3 week retention on disk, then
use the vault feature within Veritas to duplicate the images to tape.
the tape is mainly used for disaster purposes. Our environment propably
won't do away with tapes for awhile. The Veritas setup is staright
forward, you just create a disk storage unit and tell your policy to use
that storage unit. We did find out that the multiple plexing needed to
be set to 1. Their support is outstanding, EMC could learn from them.
They will help you fine tune your media servers for maxium thru put.

We have not used the replication feature yet, because we don't have
another site to replicate to. This may change in the future because
there is
talks of creating another data center.

Hopes this help.

All,=20

We are looking into purchasing a couple of Data Domain DD4XX series disk
to disk backup and replication appliances. We have a few sites that we
are looking at backing up to disk and replicating back here to our
corporate office. Basically 2 - 3 sites back to corporate, then to tape
from there. We had there sales guys out here a couple of weeks ago and
it looked pretty good, but I want to pose this question to the user
community.=20

Are there any issues with NBU, or with the replication portion of the
appliance, replication is huge for us, as we want to eliminate tape at
the remote sites.=20

The particulars of our NBU environment, Win2k3, NBU 5.1 MP3A=20

TIA for the feedback =20
