A couple of things to consider. If you are physically moving the data
from one server to another AND keeping the same host name information
you should be okay when you install NBU on the new server. The only
stuff to replicate is /usr/openv/netbackup/db. There is a database in
/usr/openv/netbackup/volmgr/database that you will/may need. (You may
need to run the command, vmglob -get_gdbhost, to make sure that the
media is controlled by your master server name.)

=20

This is what I would suggest to get things synced up. Uninstall NBU.
When you do this make sure that you answer yes to an upgrade. If you say
this is part of an upgrade it will keep the contents within
/usr/openv/netbackup/db. Reinstall NBU providing the host name/media
server name to the installer script. I would expect things to clear up
after that.

=20

HTH and good luck!

P.S. It was mentioned there is no supported way to change the media
manager/master server name. We had to solve this within our BCP/DR test
bed. This is what you do (I was told that this is supported).

=20

Run vmglob -get_gdbhost (to see what name controls the media)

Run bpimage -newserver <new_server> -oldserver <old_server> (Changes
"ownership" of all the images from the old to the new server.)

Put this in the master server's bp.conf:

FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER =3D <old_server> <new_server> (This basically
tells NBU to ignore any media ownership issues and defer to the new
server - my interpretation)

Stop and start NBU.

I have migrated my master server. It is the sole 5.0 server and I moved
from a Sun 420R to a Sun V240 both of therm running Solaris 9. I
accomplished the migration by installing Veritas on the new server and
then copying the /usr/openv directory from the old machine to the new
(on top of what I had just installed). Things are mostly working but
one thing wrong is that my new server only seems to know about the media
in my robot -- it does not know about any of the other media. If I
click on the Media tab in the GUI all I see are the eight tapes in the
robot.

I have another problem which I assume is related. None of the tapes in
the robot are in the Weekly pool and when my Sunday backups (which are
supposed to use the Weekly pool) ran. There were tapes in the scratch
pool, however, and was expecting it to take tapes from the scratch pool
and place them in the Weekly pool. My weekly backups were working
previously -- this problem definitely started after the migration.

Can anyone recommend a course of action?=20
