if you have a server with millions of files to backup,512MB are to little.
For one of my servers with 4 million small files and with the server at 512
Mb Ram, the restore never started. BPRD posses was taking 450 MB of memory
and the boot disks of my master was 99% utilized because they swapping data.
At list 1Gb and I recommend 2GB.

Hi all

I have been asked to spec up a new backup server.
We have chosen a Sun V240 single CPU running Solaris.
http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/v240/

It will probably not do more than run NetBackup with an Overland dual DLT
robot.

It will also run a web browser (Apache) for our internal monitoring (Think
Big Brother, Hobbit or equivalent tool)
Neither of these are very resource hungry.

The V240 ships with 512Mb or RAM as standard.
Is there any justification for more?

Regards
    Vernon
