Google for ESX Ranger. Its a decent option for online backup of VMDK
or DSK files.
=20
It will allow you push the files (while systems are online) to another
server. Back them up on the other server.
Easier for DR.
=20
It essentially takes the scripting out of it and its not so good for
single file restore.....

Then they are fibbing to you. What you need is a client for each VMWare
machine to back up the data. I worked with a Veritas SE to design our
VMWare backups, and we are going with an agent for each machine, as well
as a Win2k3 SAN Media Server (on an IBM HS40 Blade $$$) and 5 SSO
licenses to suck down all of the VMWare dsk files from our EMC SAN
straight to tape. But you still need the VMWare licenses to back up
changes and perform incrementals. As far as we know, VMWare machines
cannot be backed up live, and are designing some scripting possibilities
to work with that. And then management said no way to the SAN backups,
so we're doing it just with clients. We just did a full recovery of a
VMWare system last night, and it worked quite well. :)

Just curious if anyone is backing up any instances of VMWare clients.
We have been told by Veritas that we can purchase one agent to backup
all instances. VMWare is saying that we will need a client for each
virtual machine. Anyone with any experience here have any info?

Thanks

Mike
