So how many weeks does Veritas need before it gets around to kicking out
the tape?
=20
I can guarantee, with 100% certainty, that I've never had a broken
tape/leader etc, due to someone improperly trying to forcefully remove a
tape..

        Veritas will kick the tape out when needed- dont have your
operators open the door and break the leader, the tapes sometimes stay
there until a drive is needed, all your past breakage is operator error,
4000 mounts maybe or bad drives but leaders dont just break, it comes
from someone trying to open the door on a drive during activity - the
leader breakes then. Have operators use tapes with robtest or the
control pannel on the robot but never let them again, open the door on
the robot, thats what has been happening - the open door, press unload
- they pull the handle - immediate break of the leader - - joke take the
keys to the robot and use volmgr/robtest to unload / move tapes.

        Paul,=20
        Powercycling the drive has worked most of the time. If there=20
        are red lights on the front of the drive, you need to call in=20
        to STK to have them remove and possible replace the drive.=20

        Once I had a tape snap the leader spindle off with 1/4 the tape=20
        in the drive. It shredded the tape completely. I've had a few=20
        other tapes almost snap, and had to be removed by STK. I did
not=20
        return the tapes to use.=20
