Try these options in the /etc/resolv.conf to help mitigate the issues
you mentioned.
options retrans:1
options retry:2

In general, you cannot add additonal nameservers to resolv.conf for the
purpose of finding additional hosts.  Every nameserver in the file must
know about *all* of the hosts you want to find.

Otherwise the first one says "no such record" and the machine will never
ask any of the other servers...

Or potentially worse, occasionally you get a timeout which leads to a
different answer!
