Hi Eric

Still a little confused,

We have a DB2 agent for NetBackup installed on the Window2003 server hosting
DB2.

The admin guide says edit the db2.conf file to include the policy and
schedule.

In order to backup to a new tape each day I need five policies, as each one
references a different volume pool each day. A tpl (template file is used
the backup selection list for the policy.

How can reference 5 policies one for each day, do I need 5 db2.conf files
each calling a different policy

Regards,

Imran

The db1 and db2 / lawson should be on different tapes for speedy recovery.
lawson and db1 on the same tape is ok becuase db2 is double the
size. You must need redo02 as well? I perform these backups daily for HP
administrators and they have been happy for years including Disaster recover
at Sungaurd NY / Chicago sites.

1. First we use user initiated backups from HP but if you do not thats OK
but the database should be shut down 1st.

Example:
2. Policy called DB file list include db1 / db2 / redo02 / lawson
schedule is DB multiplexing = 1 media pool = DB - include
4 tapes in the media pool - move db1 to the top of the file list and
db2 to the bottom of the list, move lawson up under db1 and redo02
    just above db2.
3. Then set policy attributes to allow multiple data streams -

This should work? I suggest Multiplexing set to 2 for this ? Incase a
tape runs out of space?
Thanks

Hi

Can anyone help?

We have a NetBackup 5.1 solution which involves a Master Server (SCSI
attached library) and a number of clients two of which are DB2 on
windows 2003. One of the requirements is to have backups written to a
different tape each day, which is easily accommodated for in most
policies by having multiple schedules each using a different volume
pool. However, in database specific policies such as SQL and DB2 one
would need to have multiple policies to be able to write to a different
tape for each day of the week. In a SQL policy it is straight forward
have 5 policies writing to 5 different volume pools each with same .bch
file. I understand in DB2 it's a little different where there is *.conf
file which holds details on a policy, schedule and instance. The DB2
policy references a tpl (template file) or shell script. Do we need
multiple *.conf files or can multiple policies be referenced in the
*.conf file. What is the relationship between *.conf and template files.
I am new to DB2 can anyone help

Kind Regards,

Imran Khan
