How to migrate a UNIX NetBackup server to Windows (or vice-versa)
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/267137.htm

Details:
The way VERITAS NetBackup (tm) server processes read and write the database
is completely different between (all) UNIX platforms and Windows platform.
This makes it technically impossible for a UNIX server to read catalog
databases from a Windows server. Thus, it is not possible to migrate the
catalog from UNIX to Windows and therefore is unsupported.

When migrating environment from a UNIX platform to Windows, you must
understand that the catalog cannot be migrated, so you will, in essence, be
setting up a complete new Windows environment, then moving all clients to
this environment. Backups and restores from here on will be new. All old
backups performed from previous UNIX environments will not be migrated to
the Windows server.

Depending on how backups are written on the UNIX media servers, it may be
possible to import each tape one at a time into a Windows media server, thus
enabling restore capabilities. It is also possible to configure a UNIX media
server alongside a Windows master server to perform these manual imports of
each tape. Please refer to the NetBackup System Administrator's Guide for
your specific version of NetBackup for more information on importing images.

Hello,
I/my group has been assigned an upcoming Disaster Recovery Test. I am
suppose to do something that I have never tried, but I hope someone here
has. I have a NetBackup 4.5FP4 client, running Solaris 7, which backs up to
a Solaris 9, NB FP4 master server. I also have an NT master, separate from
Sun master. I have been tasked with importing the media for the Sun client
into the Windows master. When/if that is done, I then have to restore all
databases to that client from the Windows master. The client will have a
fresh os and that's all. Has anyone ever done this or point me in the right
direction? Thanks!
