Hi,
The issue, I guess was that the activity log was holding job status for a
month & we are backing up almost 45 servers.
so you can imagine the number of job logs in the activity monitor, once we
deleted the jobs in the activity monitor...things improved.

& now the wins java admin console is a bit faster than the java console on
Solaris.

guess all the 3 options that u guys suggested were helpful in improving the
GUI performance, apart from having a limited no. of jobs in the Activity
monitor......

the changes done were :
1. parameters changed on the jnbSA script
 ulimit -n 1024 changed to a value ulimit -n 100

2. modify the /usr/openv/java/nbj.conf file:
changed these values to something like:

INITIAL_MEMORY=256M
MAX_MEMORY=512M

3. & of course using a windows Java Admin console.

& yes, we should be moving NBU 5.1 soon.

thanks guys........

with regards
jay

I always used xnb when using the older versions as its real quick. I
used to tunnel through ssh with a -C for compressions option and ran
cygwin or an X client on my admin box.
