Actually, what Doug is asking about is a supported configuration. 
The bottom line is, the MASTER cannot be running a release that is 
older than what's running on the client.  FP3 is a [slightly] newer 
release than MP3, so that's ok.

Some examples...

YES  Master=4.5 FP3, Client=4.5 MP3
NO   Master=4.5 MP3, Client=4.5 FP3
YES  Master=4.5 FP6, Client=4.5 MP1
NO   Master=4.5 FP3, Client=4.5 MP4

The minor caveat to all of this is the fact that some specific 
features or fixes may require that the Master and the client BOTH be 
at the newer release.
