1.- mysqlhotcopy script http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/mysqlhotcopy.html
2.- make a master and a slave server the slave server only for backup 
purpose, at any time you break the sync, stop the slave database, make 
backup, then resync. the sync process is via "rcp" (not exactly) so it's 
as fast as your lan. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Replication_FAQ.html
After 1 or 2 simply  backup result files.
