Hello all,

Has anyone on this list had experience in consolidating separate
master/media servers into a single server that performs both master and
media services? We have an Windows NB 4.5/FP5 environment with the master
and media servers as separate hardware. We are in the early stages of
planning an upgrade to 5.1 and are considering whether it makes sense to
combine these into a single server. The media server has 4 LTO2 drives from
a Storagetek L5500 library and the master has a single LTO2 drive from the
same library. The single drive on the master is largely wasted due to the
requirements of LibAttach (required for STK ACS libs on Win platforms). By
combining the servers we could "free up" the drive currently on the master.
My concern is how to "merge" catalog data from the existing media server
into the master server. There are probably other issues I haven't thought of
as well. I've not found anything useful on this topic in the Veritas
knowledgebase. It is not a fixed decision for us to do this - just something
we are considering. If anyone has gone through this I'd love to hear any
details you may be inclined to share. Thanks in advance...
