Right, thanks James.

I reckon I'll have to upgrade the primary site to version 5.

Hi Jan

I wouldn't like to import tapes for DR - as you say it would take far too
long.

Most sites have the same NetBackup version at primary and DR, which means
you would just take your catalog backup tapes to the DR site and restore all
the images. You'd then be able to browse your backups as if you'd just
imported all your tapes.

You _are_ doing catalog backups I assume :)

Cheers

Hello again!  We're in the middle of a DR implementation.  Initial testing
suggests that doing bpimport to import our almost 500GB backups at the DR
site would take way too long.

Here's the scenario.  We have NetBackup 4.5 Datacenter on our primary site,
accessing media from a 20-slot library.  At our DR site sits a NetBackup 5
Enterprise Server box with a 5-slot autoloader.  Both sites use Ultrium-1
drives and media.

I'm relatively new to NetBackup myself; I was thinking there might be a way
to import backups of the primary's catalog during a DR restore.  Or perhaps
having a single master server serve both sites (with media servers scattered
all around) would do the job.

Sorry for posting such a seemingly simple question.  I find reading through
all the documentation a bit too tedious.

Thanks,

Jan

Thanks to all of you for your ideas.  Finally finished importing, the job
took 8 hours!

Hello!

I'm doing a bpimport (NetBackup Enterprise 5.0GA) to import an Ultrium-1
volume.  It seems to be taking a whole lot longer than I expected; still at
phase 1, and 5 hours later, still no cigar.  Activity monitor shows the
job's status as Active. These are the lines in the log:

8/13/2004 4:22:14 PM - begin Import

8/13/2004 4:22:14 PM - started process bptm (2408)

8/13/2004 4:22:15 PM - started process bptm (2408)

8/13/2004 4:22:15 PM - mounting 0014L1

Is it supposed to take this long?

Thanks,

Jan
