Assorted challenges with our Teradata environment:
1. Users logging in and doing stuff in the database kills the backups.
2. The flip side is us running backups keeps users from doing stuff in the
database. Gotta love databases you can't use for 5 hours....
3. Teradata hasn't been certified to run with anything current for
NetBackup. We just got told today that we can go ahead and upgrade to NB 4.5
MP6 (from our current version of MP5). Last I checked they weren't planning on
certifying NB 5.x until next year sometime.
4. 21 different policies to back it up (16 different nodes, plus the special
stuff).
5. Runs on an NCR version of UNIX.
We currently have it running in its own little environment. Windows master,
L700 library with 20 LTO2 drives fibre-attached directly to the nodes (no
switches involved). The L700 was NCR's recommended backup solution - I've got
no idea if they have anything larger they recommend.
