Hi,
=20
we run backups to an LTO library, single tape drive, so expected to be =
able to render at least 10 Mbyte per sec of data sent to the tape. What =
we see in the job-details is an max throughput of about 2.5 Mbyte per =
sec, regardless of the client that is sending its data to the backup =
server.
=20
The network topology is such that many clients are separated from the =
backup server by a firewall, which could be a cause for the slower =
network throughput.
=20
But when the backup is being taken of a fileserver that sits on the same =
network segment as the backup server (so without intermediate firewall), =
we get still the same throughput of 2.5MBps.
=20
I do not see any collisions on the network interface of the backup =
server, so I do not suspect a saturated network link.
=20
How can we diagnose the place where the throughput is being slowed down =
?=20
All boxes (server and client) are Solaris-9 hosts, backup server is =
SUN-SF280R, link to L25 robot is Ultra-SCSI (supposedly to give me max =
of 80 MBps, no?)
=20
TIA
=20
Rob
