Good decision. It allows for reliable backups and restores. =20

Thanks to everyones for your replys. The way we do other databases like
Oracle is to use the Oracle utility to do hot backups during the week
and then I think it does a cold one on the weekends. THis is the way
our DBAs prefer to do it. Veritas backs up the output of those backups
including logs and whatever it needs to recover the database. =20
=20
I assumed Exchange had a utility similar to that. I still think it must
if, Veritas has the ability to do a hot backup on Exchange there must be
a utility it's using. Anyway if you're telling me it doesn't and my
value-add vendor said the same thing, we'll buy the Exchange clients.=20

        Hi.

        =20

Yes you can, but you will have to stop the exchange server
services (making sure that all exchange processes are stopped) and stop
any other activity on the server itself. Then you could go for a full
backup of all local disks and system state, just like any other FULL
"image" backup. Frankly, if it's a LARGE exchange installation, then
you'd be much better off opting for the exchange agent.

I apoligize, I'm not familiar with MS Exchange and I need to
backup some Exchange servers. We currently don't use any of the add-on
client products for databases and don't really want to for Exchange.
Can you backup an Exchange server without purchasing the Exchange
client?

Is anyone backing up a Cisco Unity System?
