The backup schedule is chaotic due to proccesses been run, the outcome =
of
which decide when the backups will run. After consulting Veritas we =
cleared
up some fog.
They said that when the catalog is automatically initiated then no other
backups run. If the catalog is manually initiated then manual backups =
can be
run.

Have you tried establishing a specific time for the catalog backups=20
and notifying the users and detailing the importance of the backup =20
And then disable the user schedule during that timeframe ;-)

We have the same issue, but worse, we have so many user initiated =
backups we
have to force a catalog backup at certain times. You will lose any jobs =
that
are currently writing and might have some corruption from open image =
files,
but you will get anything that wasn't written or open just before the
catalog backup was iniated. So it is better then NOT backing up the =
catalog
;)

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Catalog Backups & Manual Backups

Hi everyone.
=20
I have an Netbackup 4.5 installation and quite time between backups is
scarce. When they do have time they manually initiate catalog backups.
Unfortunatly the site has operators that run user-initiated backups. So =
I
see backups running in parallel with the catalog backups.
The question is if this is acceptable behaviour for NetBackup 4.5. Will =
I
have problems with the catalog backup?
In NBU 3.4 when you ran catalog backups, no other jobs (manual or =
scheduled)
could run before the catalog backup completes.
=20
But in 4.5 I see that you can. Has anybody similar issues? I cant find =
any
documentation or technotes indicating that this behaviour is wrong or =
right.
=20
Any ideas?
=20
