Hi everyone,

=20

Apologies that this isn't NBU specific, but Googling doesn't give me an
answer to this question that I've had for a while. I'm relatively new
to the backup world, so I haven't worked with the Seagate Viper LTO
drives I have long enough to know how long I can expect to go between
cleanings. I know the drives are supposed to kick on an LED when they
think they need a cleaning, but I'm getting media write errors in NBU,
and no LED. So, I'm thinking the drives may need cleaning. How long
should I be able to go? 40 hours? 80 hours? 400 hours? 800 hours?
What have you seen in your environment? I've also seen that LTO drives
will resist cleaning requests until they ask for it. Are there tricks
to force a cleaning of a drive?

Thanks for any replies!
