BMR is designed to restore a server onto the same hardware.

Well that's not entirely true, On the windows side of things, they have=20
something called Dissimilar System Restore.

It allows you to restore the system onto a piece of hardware with a=20
differing hal(multi or single cpu), network cards and disk controller.

I've been doing alot of BMR testing over the last two months.

I just did a dissimilar system restore this past weekend. It worked good=20
for me.

The only problem i ran into is that if application installers use the 8.3=20
converted file names (using ~1) in the file/directory this information is=20
not transferred at the file system level. I'll have to place a service=20
call with veritas about that.

Expect BMR testing to take longer then you think.
