DR, catalog backups, disk and tape questionThe only problem you will have is
the process of restoring the database information. You will have to install
NBU to your current patch level, perform a phase I and II import of the tape
with the database information, restore the database dump to the disk
location, shutdown NBU, then perform a recovery utilizing the data you just
restored.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] DR, catalog backups, disk and tape question

Hello experts, I was wondering if the following is a good idea:
NBU 4.5 HP-UX 11i, XP512 disk (SAN attached, very fast and reliable) ADIC
scalar 10k with LTO-1 and LTO-2 drives (also SAN attached)

Our production community requirements mean that backups run nearly 24 x 7
so the automatic catalog backup never gets a chance to kick off unless we
stir up the bees nest by killing/suppressing the backups and manually
kicking one off. I know that disk backups are fast, we are using vaulting.
Our DR site is not set up to recover the NBU, they didn't think of that yet.
I'd like to perform the catalog backup to disk (different file system than
the DB) /catalog_backup for example, and then back /catalog_backup up to
tape at our leisure daily, with an inline copy once a week, send one tape
copy off to DR site and bank the other at our local off-site storage. Will
this work? Can I do a bprecover on the restored data and get it to restore
the prod NBU DB onto the remote DR server? Currently our catalog backups
take 4-5 hours. Any gotchas trying to recover NBU catalogs using a
"regular" tape backup of a catalog backup on disk? Thanks a lot! Aren
