HI All

=20

I would appreciate any feedback with regards to the following
problem.....

=20

Environment

Netbackup 4.5_5 (MP).

Master - Solaris 8 - No other applications (dedicated as nbu master).

Media servers - Solaris 8 and W2K (service pack 4) - Total of 8.

Clients - Solaris 8 and W2K (service pack 4) - Total of 200.

Library - ADIC 10K with QLOGIC switch (SanBox2) and QLOGIC routers (SNC
5000's) with 15 SSO drives.

Problem

For the last three months I have encountered persistent error 52's at
one of my sites. It appears that during peak schedules the "maximum
number of drives" configured on the storage unit is not adhered to, e.g.
I have two media servers sharing the same two drives in the library. My
storage unit on both media servers are setup to use a maximum number of
2 drives and the maximum streams are set to 4. I then put these storage
units into a storage group and define the storage group on my policy.
When my peak schedule starts I noticed that the two media servers in
question will have a total of 13 jobs active - not 8. Four jobs start on
media server 1 and use tape1. Another four jobs start on media server 2
and utilizes tape2. Now there are still 5 jobs left and active and the
media servers try to load another two tapes (one on each media server).
These jobs then fail with error 52 and requeue until the number of
retries and then fail. I have now altered the maximum drives to 1 each,
but still have the same problem, although less.=20

=20

I currently have a case pending with Veritas and did the following
changes......

1. Removed the /usr/openv/volmgr/DISABLE_RESOURCES_BUSY touch
file.=20
2. Any storage units not being used for backups, please set the
storage unit drive count to 0. I believe your master server is a
candidate here.
3. Added the latest drive and robot mappings.=20
