I believe you can just add a "SERVER = <new master>" entry to your clients
bp.conf files. We just had a do all script append the server entry line
onto the bp.conf file of all clients. You do not even have to remove the
old master server entry. This worked for unix anyway, not sure about
Windows.

FYI/Reminder,
If you plan on making this a new master with a different name, restoring
from old data may require some extra work. This is because I'm almost
positive that a client can have only one master, and to change the master
requires a reinstall of the NB client app for each client. So you will
initially have to reinstall the client on all your machines.
Additionally, you will have to do this again to the specific client you
wish to restore from a old backup on the old master server. If I am
wrong I'm sure someone will correct me

Subject: [Veritas-bu] New SUN Server build
Folks,
We are preparing to build a new Master/media server. It will
be a SUN V440 w/ 4-1.06 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 4-36 GB Ultra320 SCSI
(internally mirrored for 2), 2 GigE MMF fiber cards, 2- Dual FC
interface and 1 PCI dual channel Ultra 3 diff SCSI host adapter.
Attached externally will be a SUN StorEdge D2 Ultra160 SCSI 4-36 GB
drives to start (mirrored). Our intent is to have the internal
drives only for OS and swap and to use the D2 for the netbackup and
DB. The silo (either an ADIC Scalar 2000 or a Quantum PX720), will
be connected via a set of the FCs. The OS will be Sol 9.0
(secured) and initially the VERITAS app will be 4.5 FP5/6 with a
planned upgrade to 5.1 when available if proven reliable.
We are looking for any suggestions, recommendations, warnings,
etc that may be available based upon your experiences. Including,
any 'tweaks' to the OS as we have done on our current solution (an
E3000 / STK 9710) and have shared in previous mailings.
Our current thoughts are to build the system - test - debug -
test - approve and then to begin redirection of clients on a
scheduled basis from the old to the new. We do not intend to
migrate the catalogue over. Instead we will retain both units
active until the bulk of the media is expired and then 'import' any
minimal tapes that remain.
Again - your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
