We did the Win Active Directory/Domain Controller recovery this morning
using FP6 and found no issues.

I don't recall anything on this issue. I have been studying this for a
while. The only thing I can tell you is that Veritas doesn't use NBU
API's to backup the system_state of DC's, it actually uses window's API
structure to back it up.

Like I said before, I haven't heard of any issues, if you can point me
to a link or an e-mail I would greatly appreciate it.

Thx
Josh

I can't find anything on this at the Veritas website right now but I
seem to remember that there was an issue with Server 2003 Active
Directory backups previous to 4.5_fp6. Does anyone have a link to this
info? The entire exchange configuration is stored within Active
Directory and AD has to be restored along with exchange in a DR
scenario. If you are running AD 2003, you may need to be on 4.5_fp6
for your exchange backups.

Suzanne,

I wouldn't upgrade to 4.5fp6 just yet. Wait until MP1 or (5.1) is
released within the next week. But on the other hand, if you are using
the exchange agent, you can backup Exchange 2003 with any version of
Netbackup. It depends what kind of backups you want to do. That is the
difference. Mailbox level is easier in 5.0 than 3.41. How many storage
groups do you have? How is your exchange setup?

I'm trying to upgrade our NetBackup system so we can back up Exchange
(currently running NB 3.4). I was going to install 5.0, but there seems
to be a lot of issues with it (?) and going through the initial install
there's this whole thing about VxSS, which claims it's on a "clearly
marked" CD, but it isn't. Some googling seems to indicate it hasn't come
out yet. I can't tell from the doc if I need this piece, or if I can
just skip it, or what.

So then I was thinking about just going to 4.5 until 5.0 was a little
more stable (and all the parts out), but can 4.5 back up Exchange 2003?

I'd certainly appreciate (always do!) any guidance or advice you folks
can provide.
