I agree, it's not what you know, it's recognizing what you don't know and 
knowning how to find the answer. If someone asked me what an error code was, 
I'd say "Time to look in the manual".

Plus, getting too specific limits alot, because no two environments are the 
same, and everyone sees things others don't.

Personally I dont think these will help. I've been using netbackup since it
was called netbackup, and I still don't know ( or care ) what all the error
codes are. Its really how you go about solving a problem thats important.

Hire someone smart and give them a manual and access to this mail list :)

It really doesn't matter because interview questions are and should be
specific to that environment.
My environment uses NetBackup only for the Wintel machines. A variety of
other apps/programs are used for the other OSes present here. If I were to
interview someone I'd want to ask them NBU questions as it pertains to
Windows and Exchange since that's what matters to my environment.

Getting to the topic:
Maybe asking some questions about off-site copies/vaulting and DR in
general.
