I don't know of any personally. However I suspect it will work. I have
seen this work on HP-UX with a make_recovery tape. You would probably still
want to do bprecover to recover from the latest catalog backup. Also, you
can include /var/bmr in the catalog backups so the BMR database is also
brought back up to date when you use bprecover. If you have SRT's, you can
restore them from NBU once you get the Server up, as long as you backed them
up, of course.

Hi,

We are a small shop and only have one NB server.

We are testing BMR on our NB server.

BMR give me a great way of protecting my netbackup clients.

I need to protect my BMR/NB box.

BMR doesn't seem to have a good solution for that.

Today, I was shooting the breeze with our SUN Field Engineer today. We were
catching up a bit since i hadn't talked to him in about 6 months(Knock on
wood nothing broke).

He informed me that Solaris 8 now has the ability to create a Flash Archive.

Essentially these are the steps as he explained them.

Backup Procedure
        1) Grab a DVD burner.
        2) Create a Flash Archive of the Solaris Server
        3) Burn the Archive to DVD

Restore Procedure (should there be a disaster.)
        a) Boot Solaris from the flash archive you create and it will
restore the system
or(I'm not 100% sure what he said here)
        b) Boot Solaris install media, then add the flash archive you
created. The system will be restored.

Has anyone given this a try to protect NB Master Servers?

Thanks,

Karl
